Sun island resort is located on a private island nearby the water town of Zhujiajiao, 20 chalet buildings are redesigned inside-out into 160 double family units. The building structure has been carefully considered to form a spatial attic feature inside the units, and modifications to the facade increased daylight access drastically. The retreat evokes an emotive connection to its surrounding landscape. It inspired a meaningful relationship between nature - earth, forest, sky - and two levels of units. the ground floor features an outdoor sunken forest fire place soaking up the surrounding landscape. the upper units feature a tall and high sky light evoking a daydream looking up into the sky.
